Oktoberfest! Auf zur Wiesn

A visit to Germany in the fall would not be complete without a stop by the largest fair in the world - the Oktoberfest. Each year Munich hosts this 3-week long Volksfest from mid September through early October. This years Fest included additional exhibits due to the 200 year anniversary of the fair. Each year "die Wiesn" (Oktoberfest) outdoes itself with its world-famous rides, beer-tents, and exhibits. The Fest is attended by upwards of 5 million people, and is a quintessential part of Bavarian culture.

At the subway stop "Theresienwiese" on our way to the Fest.

It's unbelievably crowded, but somehow everyone gets by.

We stopped for a quick group photo op before we got lost in the crowds.

This ride was i.n.s.a.n.e. and so were the people brave enough to ride it!

Ketchup?

Footlong bratwurst - yes please!

These are "lebkuchen herzen" they are not very tasty, but a cute gift to take home to your honey.

Steve wore his new "lederhosen" for the occasion. We found a hat to match!

Inside the Hofbrauehaus tent. It's really hard to get a seat, and since we don't drink, we just wanted to get a quick peek.

These "bierfaesser" were moved around by a beautiful horse-drawn carriage.

We took a ride on the ferris wheel...

The view was amazing!

There were so many Bavarians wearing their traditional outfits. It made us want to go out and buy Dirndls.

So crowded!

On the train back to Regensburg. Burned out.
