Florence, the heart of the Renaissance

Today we arrived in the fabled city of Florence Italy, the Athens of Italy and the epicenter of the Renaissance. The city is teeming with priceless masterpieces from the likes of Giotto, Michelangelo, Rafael, Titian, Da Vinci and so many more.

We began our stay by touring the Medici’s Academia a gallery which houses Michelangelo’s statue of David, perhaps the most quintessential work of the Renaissance.

The next day the AMBEXers made a more thorough acquaintance with the city visiting the Uffizi art gallery (containing works from Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Rafael, Durer, Cranach,) Brunelleschi’s Duomo, and neighboring Baptistery, the Monastery and Cathedral of St. Croce` where entombed are some of the world’s, and certainly Italy’s, most remarkable individuals; Galileo, Michelangelo, Machiavelli and Da Vinci among many others.

Also at St. Croce` is a room said to have the most perfect acoustics in the world—and so we sang!
